Hereditary rule in America?

My Instaletter in today’s issue of the Asheville Citizen-Times:

Four years of Bush as president, then eight years of Clinton, after that eight years of Bush the Younger. Now we’re considering electing another Clinton? What’s next: Jenna, followed by Chelsea? I thought Washington, Jefferson, et. al. brought an end to hereditary rule when they declared independence from the British royalty.
